Via Veneto — Restaurant Review in Barcelona

Via Veneto is a wonderful piece of Barcelona fine-dining history, an old-school Michelin restaurant where jackets, polished service and classic cooking make entering the dining room feel like travelling back in time. The excellent à-la-carte menu and particularly strong selection of mature Spanish wines make it refreshingly different from the city's more experimental restaurants.

We always have fun here. The restaurant belongs to an era when French cuisine, formal service and elegant surroundings defined fine dining, and it may be one of the few restaurants in Barcelona where a jacket — or even a tie — still feels completely natural. The food is consistently very good, and we particularly appreciate the extensive à-la-carte selection in a city where tasting menus increasingly seem mandatory. The wine list can be outstanding, especially for mature Rioja and Vega Sicilia, often at surprisingly reasonable prices, and there is also a deep selection of Bordeaux. Burgundy is well represented too, although unfortunately at prices that are considerably harder to justify.

À la carte averages €120–160pp. Grand dining that earns its price.
