Ultramarinos Marín — Restaurant Review in Barcelona
Ultramarinos Marín is one of Barcelona’s classics, with a great atmosphere and food that ranges from very good to merely solid. Unfortunately, wildly inconsistent service and an often arrogant attitude from the staff make it a place we are increasingly reluctant to revisit.
Several dishes here can be genuinely excellent. The quality is somewhat inconsistent, though, with some plates standing out and others feeling merely decent. Service is even more unpredictable: our first visit was very good, while the second was overshadowed by an attitude from the staff that one of us found so unpleasant that we are not sure we would return. That probably explains why the Google reviews seem harsher than the food itself would suggest. The wine list does not help much either, leaning heavily toward mediocre natural wines, so at this point we are mostly waiting for another restaurant to push it out of our personal favourites list.
