Pur — Restaurant Review in Barcelona

Pur is one of our favourite places for exceptional ingredients prepared with restraint, particularly when it comes to fish and seafood. In a city where fine dining can sometimes become overly complicated, Pur lets oysters, carabineros, turbot and other great products remain the undisputed stars of the plate.

This is where we go when we want great fish and seafood without unnecessary fuss. Spanish fine dining can sometimes add so many techniques, sauces and layers that the original ingredient almost disappears, while Pur takes exactly the opposite approach. Raw oysters, grilled carabineros, steamed sea bass or grilled turbot with simple greens can feel almost luxurious precisely because they are allowed to taste like themselves. It reminds us of living in Italy, where the quality of the ingredient often matters more than demonstrating technique, and the beautiful restaurant adds to the experience. The main downside is the price, which is high and similar to Amar, while the wine list is perfectly adequate rather than exciting, especially if you are happy to explore Spanish whites.

Tasting menu €95–120pp. Exceptional quality-to-price ratio for cooking at this level.
