Amar Barcelona — Restaurant Review in Barcelona
Amar is a beautiful, sophisticated restaurant centered on superb ingredients and relatively simple preparations, making it an excellent choice for an upscale dinner or date. We thoroughly enjoyed it, although London-style pricing makes the value proposition harder to justify in a city with so many excellent and more affordable alternatives.
In its approach, Amar reminds us of Pur: great produce, precise execution and no unnecessary complexity. The restaurant sits inside an elegant hotel, which gives it exactly the kind of atmosphere that suits a date. The problem is the price: Amar does not really feel priced like Barcelona and is closer to what we would expect to pay for a comparable restaurant in London. The clientele also reflects that positioning, with plenty of international business travellers and upscale tourists, and while everything is very good, the sheer number of excellent and much more affordable restaurants in Barcelona makes us unsure how often we would return. The wine list is good, with plenty of Spanish choices and some French bottles at generally reasonable prices.
